Welcome to our monthly recap on all of the traditional and web2 brands making moves into this thing we’re calling the metaverse, and when we say metaverse we’re not just referring to virtual worlds but the broader web3 landscape, including NFTs, social tokens, DAOs, and crypto more broadly.
With that, here’s what’s been happening in the past month.
Lacoste has officially launched its first NFT project titled “Undw3.” The collection, which is pronounced “underwater” plays to the brand’s crocodile motif as it brings the heritage label to Web3. Lacoste is set to sell 11,212 digital pieces that reference the brand’s iconic polo shirt L1212 at the starting price of 0.08 ETH. It is promised that owners of the NFTs will not only have access to exclusive physical products but will also have a say in the upcoming designs. READ MORE
Wimbledon’s centre court turns 100 this year and will launch a unique NFT collection to celebrate the occasion. In total, there are 10 NFTs, each representing a decade of Tennis on the famous centre court. Each of these NFTs has 100 editions, making it a total of 1000 NFTs. READ MORE
Toy brand Mattel recently announced a partnership with NFT platform Cryptoys to turn its iconic intellectual property, which includes Barbie and Hot Wheels, into avatar-like digital collectibles for use in games. Mattel and Cryptoys are interested in exploring how NFTs can become the foundation for the “future of toys”, where users buy a virtual Barbie to play within a game. READ MORE
Chevrolet has announced its plans to auction a Corvette NFT. Aside from receiving the NFT itself, the winning bidder also gets to take home an actual sports car inspired by the artwork. The artwork depicts a lime green Corvette Z06 blasting through a cyberpunk landscape. During the auction, it is paired with a real custom-painted 2023 Corvette Z06 with a colour matching the art. According to Chevy, they will donate all the proceeds to an education charity, DonorsChoose. READ MORE
Arizona State University
Arizona State University intends to launch NFTs for event tickets, the artwork of the landmarks that can be spotted on its campus, banners, gonfalons, and even university diplomas. On top of that, the university also wants to offer NFTs for videos of sports highlights and other activities.
The recent trademark filings from the university also show that they plan to provide lectures, workshops, and meetings in a web-based virtual environment. READ MORE
KPMG, one of the top four consulting firms, is stepping into the metaverse by opening its first collaboration hub between its U.S. and Canadian units. The hub will allow the firm’s employees, clients and communities to connect, engage and explore opportunities for growth across industries and sectors. READ MORE
Guitar giant Fender has partnered with Meta to launch the music metaverse, Fender Stratoverse. The Stratoverse is a musical adventure where users can find guitar chords to create a melody while exploring a Stratocaster guitar-shaped island. READ MORE
Chobani has officially entered the metaverse with the launch of Chobani Oatmilk Cosmic Race on Roblox. Participants enter a race through a virtual galaxy in Chobani Oatmilk spaceships delivering oatmilk to planets. If they finish the race, they can claim victory, leaderboard bragging rights, and in-experience rewards, including custom Chobani merchandise. READ MORE
